Happy New Year

I would like to take this opportunity to wish the Officers, members, and families of the DC Department of AMVETS a Happy New Year. Your hard work, commitment, and dedication to this Department during 2015 once again prove that this Department is committed to our Veterans.  I am looking forward to continue working with you this year to make this Department an even better one by continuing to provide the District of Columbia Veterans the best services we can.

I would like to give a special thanks to Post #8, Career Center Team, Department’s First Vice Billie Ainsworth, Executive Director Johnnie Collins Jr., Judge Adjutant Tony Raines and Mr. William Parker for their outstanding work assisting veterans with job search. I also wanted to thank our Post Commanders for supporting our Department Second Vice Commander, Daniel Parker by submitting your Programs accomplishments in a timely manner, which has resulted in this Department receiving a one hundred per cent Post reporting this last period.

The members who went to AMVETS National Convention this year in Birmingham, Alabama, I trust it was a learning experience, especially for the first timers.  It was not all work and I thank everyone enjoyed some sightseeing and the Southern Cuisine.  Hopefully more members will be able attend this year’s Convention in Reno, Nevada.  If you are unable to attend this year’s Convention, the AMVETS National Convention in 2017 will be held in Norfolk, Virginia. I would encourage everyone to attend at least one National Convention to see how AMVETS is ran at the top and how your Department/Post fit into the scheme of things.

Once again, on behalf of AMVETS Department of Washington DC, I hope the New Year brings you and your family, good health, good fortune, and God’s continuous blessings.

Sincerely,

Aaron J. Smith

Department  Commander
